Monterey And Carmel

Today was my day off so I took one of our tours down the western coast to Monterey and Carmel. Monterey is famous for a few things, notably cheese and John Steinbeck. Carmel is a posh little town where many of the rich and famous own houses, and who once had Clint Eastwood as their mayor.

So here’s a few of my photos. I’ll talk you through some of them afterwards.

So from the top: The first picture is a very fat squirrel. Nothing special, it’s just fat. The second is the Lone Cyprus. It’s a famous tree that grows all on it’s own just outside Monterey and has stood for 250 years and withstood harsh Pacific winds. It’s used as a symbol on lots of stuff around the area, including Pebble Beach golf course.

The sixth picture is a t shirt I found funny. It says “Top ten reasons I procrastinate: 1. “. Amusing. I tried to get the “Kiss me, I’m Irish” one but they didn’t have it in my size. There are other pictures but mostly scenery so I’ll not bore you with them. Towards the end of the tour we visited Garlic World, which is in Gilroy – the garlic capital of the world. Such a bizarre shop. They have free samples too, I tried the habanero garlic which was extremely unpleasant. And flippin’ hot. My eyes watered afterwards. I did find a range of Fartless food though which was hilarious. Read the bit on the back of the pack!

It was a good tour and the group was cool. Got my feet sunburned a bit but after sleeping in and missing my initial pickup and then panicking to meet the van I managed ok without suncream. It’s probably a tour for older people because it’s mostly scenic but it’s still cool.

In other news I’ve discovered my bed has bedbugs. It’s kinda disgusting but not my fault – the other guys bed has em too. I’ve had bites all over my arms and legs which are really itchy. Anybody know how to get rid of em?
