Bonds hits 756

A historic night for baseball. San Francisco Giants own Barry Bonds hit his 756th career home run tonight, more than any other player in the history of the sport. Going in to the game he was tied with Hank Aaron for the all-time home runs record. I’m really annoyed I missed it now, as the game was at the AT&T Park downtown. I watched the game on TV though. Should have seen the crowd, the guy who ended up catching the ball was literally mauled by about 100 people in the bleachers and was escorted by a dozen policemen from the stadium. He’s a lucky guy he got out alive!

Bonds is ridiculously popular here, everywhere else he’s considered a cheater. He’s been dogged with steroid use accusations, and there’s probably a little bit of truth in it to be honest. Considering that he hit the majority of his home runs after the age of 35. But still, the man remains a legend and no doubt the media circus that will ensue will do wonders for merchandise sales. Actually, I kinda want a Giants shirt now…
